Embracing Contradictions

The contradiction of this world hit me while I was on the tube today. I overheard a lady chatting with her daughter about not fearing failure and persisting until you succeed. It struck a chord with me; I completely understand what she meant and could envision myself imparting similar wisdom to anyone. But then, a funny thought popped into my head...

I started imagining how taking that advice too literally could lead to unintended consequences. Picture this: the daughter believes she can fly and keeps trying, even after breaking bones. It sounds absurd, I know, but bear with me. Remember, the world we live in now was once inconceivable to us. Who's to say such feats couldn't become possible someday? Perhaps her persistence could trigger some genetic mutation, making flight a reality. To me, anything is possible.

But let's get back to reality. How do you explain to a child that one rule applies to one person but not to another? It's becoming clear that the old black-and-white rules don't cut it anymore. Nowadays, you can make a living playing video games in your mom's basement, or gain fame by embracing the very thing everyone tells you to change. We preach about personal space, yet we cram kids into crowded classrooms because the law says so. If I were a kid, I'd be exploiting that contradiction left and right!

And don't even get me started on truth-telling. We're taught it's the ultimate virtue, but now we're realising it's more about perception or timing. It's enough to make your head spin, isn't it?

But maybe, just maybe, accepting the contradictions of life could make things easier if we're willing to let go of our outdated beliefs. It's clear our old systems are flawed. Embracing the contradictions might just be the key to navigating this crazy world with a bit more ease.
